The COMESA Policy Organs and the Authority of Heads of State and Government met in Nairobi, Kenya between May 11th – 23rd, 2007 to deliberate and discuss on important issues affecting the realization of the Common Markets for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Vision.
The main focus for this summit was to discuss issues relating to strengthening of Free Trade Area (FTA) as well as looking ways forward in making trade more fairer within the region and making partnership pettions with the European Union.
One of the interesting revelations in this summit is that His Excellency The President of the Republic of Kenya President Mwai Kibaki was elected as the chairman for the COMESA, while the Vice Chairman elected was His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbambwe President Robert Mugabe.
The future of COMESA depends on the African Head of states in deliberating the issues regarding trade in this continent. Do they have the will power for this? This remains an interesting issue to look into. [.....more.....]
